Take in the views of the fairy-tale Veliki Tabor Castle, dating back to the 16th century, and known for its tragic tale of forbidden love between the former Count's son and a peasant maiden. After lunch, visit the humble home in which Marshall Tito grew up and walk through the adjacent museum to learn about the region's tumultuous past with a Local Expert. As a non-aligned socialist state during the cold war, Yugoslavia did surprisingly well, largely due to Marshal Tito's efforts to keep his nation as one. After his death in 1980, Yugoslavia ultimately split into several independent countries.
